for some reason - maybe it was the hat - but this genius was humming visually in my head all week while my cousin Tim flew into town and we met for the first time in over 30 years. i hope you enjoy it as much as i do. maybe let it play as you scroll, even.
we were both from Malaysia, and our parents all moved away in search of greener pastures in a time of turmoil.
i think we're doing alright.
Tim came to Singapore where we were, and with Grace, in all sense.
as far as i can remember, Tim was my very first pen pal from across the world in Vancouver, Canada. that's still 12,813km away.
he sent drawings of fantastical comic characters; i wrote long texts of super-powered youth. i still keep them.
years down the road, we both took up the camera as a medium of expression.
but unlike me, he sees more than he says.
i just talk a lot.
our play.
their quiet.
there's a silent strength. some people look past you, but over the course of the past week i felt eyes straight at me as i spoke, genuine interest in what i had to share - how i shared, even.
i saw those eyes and perked ears when they were speaking with my family.
we don't get this often around these parts.
thanks Tim, Grace. you made my parents really happy.
'i like your poses’, Tim said to me as i dropped one of my faces in front of his camera.
don't think i'd ever mentioned this to many people, but my favourite photos are exactly like the one in the center.
most times i hope to give as much as i'd like to get too, so that was cool to hear.
i honestly don't know many people who've been here and willingly walked as much as these two have in a day.
big mood. that's some energy i'm dying to get back.
i couldn't decide which of these two were my favourite photos and i've been awake close to 18 hours at this point so i'll just leave these here.
as it is, this only took us 30 years.
till next we meet for yet another awkward shake/hug thing, fam.
easy.
