After a whopping 10 years in development, the National Gallery Singapore (formerly the Supreme Court Building and City Hall) was finally unveiled to the public earlier this month.
Within its massive walls lie over 8,000 Singapore and Southeast Asian artworks. Standing at 690,000 square feet, this is the largest visual arts area and museum in Singapore.
For a country like Singapore, this has to be the greatest undertaking of bringing the culture of artistic literacy and appreciation to the people, and it has to be appreciated immensely. A proper visit would take hours and it would all be worth it, depending on your interest levels, so mileage may vary. Me? I’m totally signing up for the annual card.
As a hobbyist photographer, the beautiful light coming through this architectural wonder doesn’t hurt at all either. This might turn out to be our little “cheat code Japan” in our tiny red dot of a city.. if the fashion bloggers don’t shoot it to death first.
Still worth a visit anyhow. It’s that good.
