Musical talent and producer Ólafur Arnalds dropped into town for a performance that was no less breathtaking than the haze that’s enveloped the island. How many times placing things on imaginary pedestals have crushed our souls, yet it seems Ólafur can do no wrong as he played to the beat of our hearts with nary a word said since 3055 in 2008.
The beginning of every new day resets that desire to escape the darkness; a fist pump to the soul as tribute for every successful stride into bed at night. You contemplate taking that blackness in arms because you’re tired of running. “Harness the obscurity and make it your friend,” you hear it whispered. You stroll the aisles of the mall but you can’t find bottled tenacity. The whisper didn’t say how but you do it anyway.
Sure enough just as you figure it out, a fresh curveball hits you like the proverbial truck and you never even saw the headlights. Once again you’re doomed to a little more of the damnation you thought you’d left, because you haven’t died after all even if you had tried.
We watched Ólafur together and she gamely posed for me. The Naked Finn is lucky to have her.
Most people aim for specific, well-planned goals. This might seem like an obvious idea, but it's been widely accepted throughout history. Do you accept?
To be surrounded by the like-hearted. To take flight in a world where nothing brings you closer to the limits of the sky than by removing the clouded fog you allow above your head.
If you're going to go out anyway, do it with people who get you, your way.
